Compassion

The CHAMP assembly this morning was hosted by members of the class of 2024!  These kindergarteners helped the rest of the lower school understand the meaning of the word compassion.  A slide show highlighting the Jamaica service learning project organized by the kindergarten classes earlier this year had the students mesmerized!

Lower school students will wear their hearts on their sleeves all day to help them remember how important compassion is.

From beginning to end, this CHAMP assembly was a winner!

Self-Control

The first graders were certainly in control this morning as they relayed the message to other lower school students about the importance of managing one’s behavior!

The skits performed by the first graders covered topics where self-control is needed!  Budging in line, interrupting, running in the halls, respecting artwork …..there are SO many opportunities each day to control behavior!

Between skits, our CHAMP leaders sang a song, asking others to STOP and THINK about how their actions impact those around them.

The older students, as well as the kindergarteners, appreciated the wonderful performance today!

Integrity

This month’s CHAMP assembly focused on INTEGRITY, which is defined as exhibiting strong character in all situations.  Lower school students gathered in the Nicholson Center this morning to listen to a guest speaker ….Martin Luther King, Jr!  (as portrayed by a player from Historical Perspectives)  Dr. King talked about the effectiveness of non-violence, and the importance of seeking peaceful resolutions to problems.

Dr. King delivers a message!

Needless to say, students were in awe of this great man, as he described the challenges he faced, and the integrity needed to lead a successful Civil Rights campaign.

Students may consider some of these struggles archaic by their standards, leading us to believe that MPA has done a wonderful job of integrating children from countless cultures into a cohesive community.

Friendship

The second graders brought the theme of friendship to life for the rest of the lower school students!  Enthusiasm and energy radiated from the stage as students showcased their talents for the benefit of others.

Second graders greeted other students as they entered.

Leading the song.

The assembly began with second graders singing a song, Lean on Me.  Then students shared traits that are common among friends: loyalty, honesty, compassion, to name a few.  These traits were beautifully displayed on fish ….which led to story time.  Second graders narrated Swimmy, by Leo Lionni, and treated other students to original illustrations via a slide show!

A rousing friendship cheer ended the gathering ….everyone participated after being taught the words by second grade friends.

The cheer leaders!

Responsibility!

Excitement was in the air as the third graders put on an amazing show this week about RESPONSIBILITY!  Once again, the assembly opened with the entire Lower School singing the CHAMP song, and then students sat back and watched as the third graders did their thing!

A clear message was presented via video ~ with our own third graders as the stars! To view the video, check out the link below:

Fourth graders did some awesome skits!

Wow!  Lower School students arrived on Wednesday decked out in their grade level colors…excited about the prospect of an all Lower School assembly!  They were not disappointed!

RESPECT!

The fourth graders did a wonderful job introducing this month’s CHAMP theme, RESPECT.  The assembly opened with all lower school students singing the CHAMP song, and then the fourth graders did a series of short skits illustrating the importance of respectful behavior.  Ask your lower school student to share his/her favorite skit message with you.
